History of Shaheen Air
Shaheen Air International was a Pakistani private airline that began flying in the 1990s and stopped operating around 2018. It is one of several carriers that have left Pakistan’s skies.
What it was
Shaheen Air was founded in the 1990s and became one of the better-known private airlines, flying domestic routes and international routes to the Gulf and beyond. It was associated with the Shaheen Foundation, an organisation linked to the Pakistan Air Force.
Decline
Like several private airlines, it struggled with financial pressure, debts, and fleet and leasing problems. Reports indicate that it stopped flying around 2018. Exact dates differ between sources.
Why this matters for travellers
- Check that an airline is operating before you buy a ticket.
- Be cautious with tickets sold by agents for carriers in difficulty, and keep records so you can claim refunds. See what to do if your flight is cancelled.
