What Is No-Show? Definition & Meaning in Aviation

A no-show is a passenger who has a booking but does not turn up for boarding and has not cancelled in advance.

In plain language

Airlines may cancel the rest of the ticket after a no-show, such as the return flight, depending on the fare rules. Fares also differ in what is refundable.

Example

If you miss the first flight of a round trip, the airline may cancel the return, so check your fare rules and tell the airline.

Why it matters

A no-show can cancel the rest of your ticket, so telling the airline matters. It is also the reason airlines overbook flights.
