What Is ACMI? Definition & Meaning in Aviation

ACMI stands for Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance: a type of lease in which the lessor provides all four.

In plain language

ACMI is the usual form of a wet lease. The customer airline pays per block hour and handles commercial matters such as ticket sales, fuel and airport charges.

Example

A carrier can use ACMI capacity to fly extra seasonal services without buying aircraft.

Why it matters

ACMI is a common way for airlines to add flexibility in peak seasons. If you see a flight “operated by” another company, an ACMI or wet-lease arrangement may be behind it.
